Refine Your Brushing Technique
You might be brushing your teeth twice a day, but are you doing it the right way? The proper way of brushing is to hold your toothbrush at a 45-degree angle as you make contact with your teeth and gums. Brush lightly in an up-and-down motion, focusing on the front and back of each tooth and along the gum line. You should be brushing for a total of two minutes!
Clean Between Your Teeth
A toothbrush can not reach all the nooks and crannies between your teeth to remove bacteria and food particles. You will need dental floss or another interdental tool, like the WaterPik or Airfloss which shoots a gentle stream of water in between the teeth and along the gum line. Use either of these items daily to prevent tooth decay, bad breath and gum disease.
Clean Your Tongue
The tongue holds large amounts of bacteria. Give your tongue a good cleaning with your toothbrush or a tooth scraper instrument. You will probably find your breath is fresher after doing this daily.
Add Fluoride To Your Routine
Fluoride has been shown to reduce the occurrence of tooth decay. Try to get fluoride into your daily routine in some way, whether it is by using fluoride toothpaste, mouth rinse, or by drinking tap water.
Eat A Healthy Diet
Eating nutritious foods can help keep your teeth strong and healthy. Fibrous, crunchy foods like celery, apples, carrots, and broccoli actually scrub and clean your teeth. Calcium rich foods like yogurt and cheese are terrific for strengthening the teeth and the bones supporting the teeth.
